Maewood Mythical Origins

It is said that the Maewood has always existed, a place outside of time, a bridge between past and present, a linking of then and now. The gates to the Maewood were sealed long ago, but now, for reasons yet unknown, they have opened again.

The Forest is a place of magic; time and distance, their meanings are fluid here. The creatures of the forest are many, and varied, but collectively known as Fae, Fairies, or the Fair Folk.

In the Maewood the changing of the seasons affects not only the plants and animals, but all the denizens of the forests. Beings friendly and kind in the Summer can become cold and harsh in the Winter, and those dark and sinister in the Fall can become softer and sweeter in the Spring.

The shift from Day to Night has similarly profound effects, creates that are welcoming become distrusting and secretive and those that are meddlesome and pesky become fiendish and malevolent.

Maewood Real World Origins

Maewood Enchanted Forest is the shared vision of Frontier Events Founder Luke Raymond Thiessen and his mother Sharon Mae Thiessen.

Sharon passed away in October of 2023 from Soft Tissue Sarcoma before seeing this dream come to life, and yet her touch remains on every aspect of Maewood. Without Sharon we never would have obtained such a beautiful property upon which to host this event and Frontier Events would never have grown into the organization it is now.

We know that Sharon will always be with us in the woods, and in our hearts.

FAQ

Maewood Enchanted Forest is intended for all ages. Our classic experience is intended to be magical, exciting and adventurous. During Halloween, things will be spooky in a family friendly way. While some young children may get scared, our goal is NOT to terrify you.

While we love classic Halloween haunts, that is not us.

You may see bones, skulls, and rot/slime but our event does not contain gore, or blood.

We have some specific evening time-slots that ARE scary and where the actors will chase you. However, even at these times our goal is not to send you home in terror – it’s for you to have fun.

All participants, regardless of age, are required to fill out a copy of our waiver form. This is a requirement of our insurance.

Participants under the age of 18 will require the signature of a parent/guardian.

Maewood is a family friendly event geared towards all ages.

Adult supervision is required for all participants under 16 years old. Younger children may require assistance with activities and exploring the forest.

We recommend planning for approximately a 1.5-2 hour stay including time spent at the Pavilion & Carnival area and out in the Forest.

We kindly ask all guest limit their time to a maximum of 4 hours.

Maewood is a replayable experience and we encourage you to visit as many times as you like.  While our characters have specific tasks & challenges to give out, they do not have set lines or dialogue. Characters and locations can vary from time to time.

This ensures that every trip to Maewood will be new and exciting and no two groups will have the exact same experience.

As we grow, we will continue to add more variety to our event including limited time events and special characters.

Maewood Enchanted Forest currently spans 10 acres of our 40 acre property and includes the Pavilion area, natural forest paths, a creek, pond, meadows, and low hills.

Parking is free, and while we encourage carpooling, there is plenty of space. Please follow the signs upon arrival.

Please dress for the weather as the Maewood Forest is an outdoor experience with some sheltered/covered areas. In cold weather wear layers and in the warm months sunscreen and bug spray.

We highly recommend closed toed footwear for traversing the trails (as opposed to crocs or sandals).

We love costumes! Attendees are encouraged to dress up in their best Medieval or Fantasy attire, however, you may not wear masks or cover your face in any way.

Attendees may NOT bring any form of weapon including any and all prop weapons such as those made from foam, plastic, wood, or any other replica.

LARPers please save your LARP swords for our LARP nights or other LARP events.

No outside food or drinks allowed (except for water).

2026 Maewood will feature a Snack bar with hot & cold drinks as well as simple snacks like popcorn.

We look forward to expanding our menu in future years and ensuring that our offerings are on theme with the rest of the Enchanted Experience.

Our washroom facilities consist of porta-potties & handwashing stations.

While the upper Pavilion grounds, Market, and Carnival area are on flat manicured grass, the Forest itself is not accessible to those with heavy mobility issues such as wheelchairs or crutches.

The Enchanted forest contains pathways that are at times rocky, uneven, and narrow. Children under 5 may need assistance.

Feeling unsure? Please contact us to discuss your situation.

We thank you for your patience as we continue to develop our site to be more accessible to ALL. Our goals for the future include better groomed paths that are wheelchair accessible and wagon ride options to visit all event scenes.

Our attraction is designed in such a way that any content can be skipped or passed at your discretion.

If you are pregnant, you are not allowed to participate in Foam Sword battles in the arena.

We encourage anyone who is pregnant to consult their doctor prior to attending and follow all recommendations of their healthcare professional.

Strollers and wagons are welcome for transporting little ones (and sleds in the winter).

In the Forest we recommend wagons rather than strollers as they are easier on the varied terrain.

Some areas of the Forest contain bright or flashing lights and fog effects.

If you are running late for your chosen time slot we will do our best to accommodate you at a later slot on the same day.

All tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable to other nights.

But, you may transfer your tickets to other Knights (people).

In case of emergency, participants should evacuate to the designated Muster Zone at the south-west side of the parking lot.

If you become lost within the Forest simply head in one direction until you reach the fence line and then follow along the line until you reach the exit.

The Enchanted Forest runs rain, snow, or shine.

In the event the Forest closes due to extreme weather ticket holders will be contacted regarding their tickets.

Closures due to extreme weather (thunderstorm, lighting, extreme winds, blizzard, extreme heat or cold) will be announced on our social media & sent to ticket holders by email.
