Game Purpose
-The purpose of this game is to create a realistic zombie apocalypse simulation
-Our goal is to give players an open world to explore where their choices and skills dictate their survival.
-All rules put in place are meant to promote this, please abide by them as best as possible and remember, the aim of the game is not to merely “win” but to have fun slaying zombies and devouring brains.

Words to Watch For
There are several terms and phrases that are important for players to understand.
STOP THE GAME: This is the most important term for a player to know. “Stop the game” is our safe word and is used to let the people around you know that something is actually wrong. This call should only be used if there is an actual problem (you dropped your glasses, you got hurt, you’re in fear of harm, etc.) In the case of an emergency please send a runner to the Zombie Hive immediately.
NPC: Volunteers who are playing characters within the game, NPC’s are also out of game sources of authority and players are to listen to their direction.
REF: There will be several referees patrolling the game zone to help resolve conflict and answer questions. All referee rulings are final.
Player:
 Someone participating in the game.
Hitpoints: The amount of damage a player can take before dying is their hitpoints. All players start with a total of 5 hitpoints. This will be detailed further in the Combat Section.
Zombie Hive: The zombie hive is the command post for zombies and volunteers, if you are a zombie, whether newly turned or looking to hook up with a horde this is the place to go. This is an OOC Zone which Survivor players are not allowed to enter. The First Aid center will be located next to the Zombie Hive.
OOC Zone: (Out of Character Zone) An OOC zone is a place where players step out of the game world and back to reality. The main OOC Zone at our current site is the parking lot, players are free to exit the game zone at any time to grab a bite to eat or something to drink from the canteen, store items in their car, or visit the first aid center.
Hit Call: A number or phrase yelled out with each “hit” from a weapon to let the player being struck know the effect of the blow (infect, explode and number values are all examples of hit calls.)
Number Call: A number called out when striking another player which represents how much damage is being dealt. Remember, you never need to hit as hard as you can, always pull up your hits at the last second to soften the blow.
Infect: This call (when accompanied by a 2 hand touch and count of 3) means you have been infected with the virus and are fated to turn into a zombie.
Explode: A call of explode is used primarily when one fires a rocket or throws a grenade. Everyone within a radius of 1 meter from the source of the explosion is dead (some exceptions may apply.) Players or NPC’s who are killed by exploding objects should hurl themselves about as if an actual explosion went off.
Loot: After you kill a zombie you may want to search it’s body for cash or other items. To do so simply place a hand on the fallen zombie and call “loot.” If you are a dead zombie (or player) and someone calls this on you then you are to hand them whatever in game items you have on you.

Combat
-All combat is to be conducted in a controlled and careful manner.
-Players are never to aim for the head or groin area and all blows with melee weapons should be “pulled” meaning you slow down at the last second so as to hit much more softly.
-We also do not allow what is commonly known as “machine gunning,” a term that refers to rapidly calling damage with a melee weapon while striking repeatedly using only quick wrist flicks. Players should only call damage with a full swing of the arm using the rule of one call per second. This tactic strays too far from the sense of realism we wish to create.
-Players should ALWAYS react to hits, whether they deal damage to the character or are stopped by armor players should still visibly show that they were struck by something.

Weaponry
-At this event players will be primarily using Nerf guns firing foam darts, as such no form of protective eye wear is required, things such as paintball and airsoft guns will not be permitted into the game.
-For a detailed description of what items are allowed in the game and which are not please read through our Safety Protocols. Players are expected to know this information and any items that violate it will not be allowed into the game.
-All weaponry will be classified, rated, and examined for safety at the start of the game, all decision made by game crew are final. The Frontier crew reserves the right to refuse any weapon deemed unsafe even if it does not directly violate our safety protocols.
-If you’re looking for an idea of how to build acceptable weapons take a look at the following link http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=UZSMP5W6iPc
-Below is a list of several of the different Classifications of weapons which can be found or brought into the game as well as their stats.
-If you have any additional questions about weaponry and if yours will meet our safety requirements please inbox our Facebook Page or email us at thefrontierlarp@gmail.com

NOTE: Any found items you pick up in game are to be returned at the end of the game. They are not for you to keep or bring home.

Hands/Feet and Grappling
-To avoid injury your hands and feet should never be used as weapons against zombies, players, or other NPCs and as such they will not deal any damage.
-No form of grappling or wrestling is allowed in our game.

Melee Weapons
-Each swing of a melee weapon must be accompanied by a hit call.
-Melee weapons will be deal between 1 and 3 points of damage.
-as a point of reference Calimacil and similar professionally built weapons, as well as beautifully crafted player built weapons will be given a rating of 3, Nerf weapons and home made ones of good quality will receive a 2, while Dollorama swords and basic pool noodle blades will be rated a 1.

Ranged Weapons
Guns:
All guns will start with a base damage of 1 unless otherwise specified and therefore hit calls will not be necessary for most of them, however any ranged weapon that hits differently than 1 requires a hit call. If you’re unsure the damage level of the dart that hit you, take 1 damage.
Ammo:
There is no limit as to how much ammo players can bring into the game. Players may re-use fired ammo.
Shotgun:
Deals 3 points of damage. For the purpose of our game no gun that can hold a clip will be considered a shotgun regardless of whether it is pump action, this is because they are meant to be rare and powerful. Examples of guns that DO count as a shotgun would be the Sledgefire (http://nerf.wikia.com/wiki/Sledgefire) Roughcut (http://nerf.wikia.com/wiki/Rough_Cut_2x4) and the N-Strike Barrel Break
(http://nerf.wikia.com/wiki/Barrel_Break_IX-2).
Know of a Nerf gun not on this list that you think should be? Email or message us on Facebook about it!
Sniper Rifle:
Sniper rifles deal 3 points of damage, this number should be called loud and clearly. The only guns that will be counted (some exceptions may apply) as a sniper rifle is the Nerf Longstrike (http://nerf.wikia.com/wiki/Longstrike_CS-6), Longshot (http://nerf.wikia.com/wiki/Longshot_CS-6), and Centurian (http://nerf.wikia.com/wiki/Centurion). All barrels and accessories must be attached for it to keep it’s sniper rifle status, if these are removed it will be given basic gun status and deal 1 damage. Know of a Nerf gun not on this list that you think should be? Email or message us on Facebook about it!
Bow:
Deals 2 points of damage. Bows as well as arrows will each be approved on an individual basis as there are many factors which contribute/detract from their safety. Arrows are to be fired only from the bow and cannot be used as melee weapons or thrown.
Rocket Launcher:
A shot from a rocket launcher should be accompanied by a call of “Explode 1 meters,” explode being the term that lets others know that everything within the radius (1m) is dead. There is no limit on rocket ammo however like grenades it is not re-usable. (http://www.toysrus.com/buy/toy-blasters-foam-play/nerf-n-strike-3-in-1-unity-power-system-2326183)
Grenades:
Similar to the rocket launcher a grenade throw must be accompanied by a call of “Explode 1 meter” and everything within 1 meter of where the grenade lands is dead. There will be a 1 per player limit on grenades and only realistic or semi-realistic props that are throwing safe will be considered in game grenades. The Zombie crew reserve the right to make the final call on what will be considered a grenade. Once thrown a grenade cannot be re-used.

Human Players
-Humans primary objective is to SURVIVE, all others are secondary.
-Once the apocalypse has begun you may discover many other important tasks such as gathering ammo and supplies, first aid, setting up a base camps, etc.
-All human players start with 5 global hitpoints, regardless of where damage is taken it all subtracts from your global hitpoints. Once you reach zero you are now unconscious and cannot move. Within a slow count of 100 you will bleed out and die unless someone bandages you restoring your health to above 0.
-a players health cannot go below zero.
-Humans cannot deal damage without weapons
-Once dead, human players are to report to the zombie hive to begin playing as a zombie.
-Humans killed by normal weapons that have not been bitten still turn as all corpses are infected with the virus.

Player Items
-Players may bring whatever anti-zombie equipment into the game that they choose provided it is first approved as safe. To ensure your items are safe for our game please review our Safety Protocol.
-Players will be able to upgrade their weapons in game allowing them to deal more damage.
-There will also be weapon caches containing items that players can pick up during game in order to aid them in survival. These items belong to the Frontier and are to be returned at the end of the game.
-It should be fairly obvious what items are to be used in game and what is simply lying around the yard however to limit confusion all in game items will have a label so players can easily recognize them and their in-game stats.
-Any unlabeled weapons that are found should be brought to the Zombie Hive or any in game weapon stores so we can get them back to their original owner.

Bandages
-Bandages are items that can be found or bought in-game to heal players. Players cannot bring in their own Bandages
-Bandages are labelled with how much health they heal, any bandages found without a label has no effect.
-A bandage must be wrapped around the player and remain their for the duration of the game. Bandages should be left behind after the game.
-Bandages do nothing to stop the virus from spreading.

Armor
Note: Our armor rating system is currently under review
-Players wearing armor deemed legitimate will be unable to be bitten/infected in the areas that are covered by that armor, they will also be given a hitpoints bonus depending on the quality/type of the armor.
-for a rundown of what type of armor is allowed in game please view the armor section of our safety page.
-The rating of armor will depend on the quality and overall look as well as the effort put in and is entirely at the discretion of the Frontier Zombie Apocalypse crew. So please, impress us. Armor and or costumes that inspire awe will have the potential to be given additional bonuses.
-Any damage taken while wearing armor, regardless of where, subtracts from your armor points first, once all your armor points are used up the armor is destroyed. Destroyed armor can still be repaired.
-Even though damage done to armor does not cause direct damage or pain to a character’s body, they should still roleplay the impact of the blows they are receiving.
-Armor also helps to prevent infection, but ONLY on the areas of the body that it covers. When all your armor points are gone the armor no longer protects those areas from infection until it is repaired.
-Bonus hitpoints given by armor are not restored by bandages

Shields
-Players may bring shields into the game to defend themselves.
-Unlike armor which has a set number of hitpoints shields can block infinite amounts of damage including melee and ranged, but not explode damage.
-To be considered a shield the prop must be reasonably thick and look the part, a single sheet of cardboard would not count as a shield.
-For full details on shield requirements please see the applicable section in our Safety Protocol page.
-Shields are meant for defense only and never to be used as weapons.

The Virus
-The cause of the virus is as of yet unknown it’s effects however, are far too evident
-On average, if a person is bitten by a zombie they will turn at a rate of 30 minutes, for every additional bite 5 minutes is subtracted from the turning time.
-Infected players will become horde zombies upon turning.
-Turning should be done in a fun and dramatic way.
-It is possible to prevent turning by chopping off a bitten limb, so long as it is done quickly enough to stop the spread of the virus (how fast is fast enough is up to the player, so you get to choose whether you want to stay human or turn on your friends and kill them.) This limb cannot be used for the rest of the game.

Getting Infected
-All corpses are instantly infected with the airborne virus, meaning any player that dies, regardless of how, will turn into a zombie.
-When a player becomes a zombie they initially retain their human stats, whatever they were at the time of death. At the first available time newly turned zombies should report to the zombie hive to be “zombified” and sent back out with a horde to devour humans.

Zombie Players
-The only goal of zombies is to feed and to infect
-A zombie players should remember that they are there to have fun and make the game fun for the survivors. A zombie should not be out to simply try and kill players, rather they should only take actions a slow dumb zombie would actually take and focus more on scaring players and creating a fun game environment.
-Zombies turn people by “biting” them, in order to ‘bite’ a zombie must grab a player with 2 hands and after a count of 3 Mississippi call ‘infect.’ If they are still holding on at this point the player is infected. As long as one of the zombies hands is on an armor free zone of the players body the player will be infected.
-‘Bites’ do not miss so long as both hands remain holding the player when it is called.
-All zombies can call a base damage of 1 with their hands, this is an open handed tag (ABSOLUTELY NO CLOSED FISTS) which should be no harder than a firm pat on the back, and never hit the face or groin.
-There are several special types of zombies which players may be upgraded to through good roleplay as the night goes on.

The 2017 Zombie Apocalypse game is brought to you by the Frontier LARP, Paintball ParadiseHM Surplus, Gameknight, Calimacil, as well as Winnipeg Dodge and The Escape Hatch
